We the public, feel it is completely inappropriate to introduce
new and increased parking charges in carparks across Surrey Heath.
This includes unnecessary spending on installing ticket machines
which will not collect any money in carparks like Heatherside and
Paddock Hill.
With the council constantly talking their town centre down in local
and national press, they now need to be trying to increase the
footfall in Camberley, not decrease it further with unnecessary
rises in their carparks. We should be looking at trying to draw in
the public from the wider area and not give them the same problem
with high carpark prices which will just keep them going somewhere
closer at the same or a cheaper price.
You should also not consider installing unnecessary pay on foot
machines at carparks such as Heatherside and Paddock Hill, which
will only make things more difficult for members of the public who
will face parking restrictions when they may need to visit that
carpark multiple times a day, ie. both morning and afternoon school
run, chemist for prescriptions and health advice, convenience
stores for last minute needed supplies and even to attend church
for worship. Local people are supporting their local businesses,
which in turn keeps the shops occupied and the rent paid back to
the council.
How will this affect local community volunteers who pick-up such
items for elderly neighbours, out of the kindness of their hearts,
it shouldn't cost them additional over inflated prices to do so,
this will have a negative impact on many things, but mostly on the
council themselves, when they need to provide care in the community
to our elderly residents who's neighbours can no longer help.
This cannot be justified when the large stores such as Tesco and
Sainsbury’s do not charge us to park and shop in store.
Burrell Road carpark should remain as it is too, due to being the
only carpark to service Station Road Surgery and the proposed
change to 30 minutes free is simply too tight to attend a GP
appointment and collect a prescription from Frimley High
Street.
There is a cost-of-living crisis going on and our council need to
think about the bigger picture and the impact these increases will
have!
