The Sub-Committee reviewed the information which had been made available to the meeting following the exclusion of the members of the press and public, as it had involved the likely disclosure of exempt information, and made decisions upon that information (if any) relating to this information or the decisions taken thereon which could be regarded as being available to the public.

4.

APPOINTMENT OF INDEPENDENT MEMBER OF THE COUNCIL’S STANDARDS COMMITTEE

The Local Government Act 2000 required the Council to establish a Standards Committee and required that at least one quarter of the membership of that Committee was independent of the Council.  The Council had decided that the councillor membership would be six, and therefore two independent members would need to be appointed.  As only one independent member had been appointed to date, the Committee had not yet met.  The independent members had to be appointed by full Council.

The Sub-Committee interviewed two applicants for the position of independent member of the Standards Committee.  The Council was recommended that, following the interview of the applicants, the appointment of an independent member of the Standards Committee be made.
