The Sub-Committee reviewed the information which had been
made available to the meeting following the exclusion of the

disclosure of exempt information, and made decisions upon that
information (if any) relating to this information or the decisions
taken thereon which could be regarded as being available to the
public.

APPOINTMENT OF AN INDEPENDENT
MEMBER TO THE COUNCIL’S STANDARDS
COMMITTEE
The Local Government Act 2000 required the Council to
establish a Standards Committee and required that at least one
member of that Committee was independent of the Council. It
was noted that regulations relating to various issues concerning
the establishment of the Standards Committee, including the date by
which the Standards Committee had to be place, had not yet been
issued by the Government. It was anticipated that a Standards
Committee would need to be in place by June or July 2001 and the
Council had decided to establish a Standards Committee for the
municipal year 2001/02.
The Sub-Committee interviewed two applicants for the
position as the Independent Member on the
Council’s Standards Committee for the municipal
year 2001/02. The Council was recommended that
(i)
following the interview of both applicants and the further
clarification sought, no appointment be made for the independent
member of the Council’s Standards Committee for
the municipal year 2001/02; and
(ii)
procedures be put into place to invite further interest in
the position of independent member.
