Outside body

Surrey County Playing Fields Association

Description

The objectives are:

       i.          to encourage the provision of playing fields for all age groups.  These are to be in the appropriate places to meet the needs of the communities in Surrey.

ii.          To ensure that these are of the right standard for sport, children's play and informal play, we work with partners such as sports governing bodies, councils and the National Playing Fields Association, now trading as Fields in Trust.  We try to ensure that playing fields are secure and are not lost without an equivalent space being made available.

iii.          Have planning expertise and make informed comment on local plans and individual planning applications when they impinge on our objectives

iv.          Make grants and loans to assist local bodies and clubs improve the quality of facilities.

In conjunction with partners we provide advice on development and maintenance of sports grounds and children's play equipment.

Councillor Representative Role: the councillor is not expected to attend meetings, (although are invited to the AGM) which are held every other month but they do receive the minutes. The function is to act as a conduit between the association and the Council. The group feel it is important to find local views on children’s play and sport.
